All entries should be mailed to the above address no later than TBA. Entry forms should include:
- Cheque for applicable fee(s) made payable to: Syrinx Flute Festival
- On-line entries should be submitted according to the instructions for the online forms.

Syrinx Flute Festival General Rules
Working Management
- All competitions will be under the working management of the Festival committee.
- Any questions not dealt with in these rules will be referred to the committee.
- Complaints or protests will not receive official consideration unless made in writing, signed and directed to the Committee. Under no circumstances are complaints or protests to be made to the adjudicator.
Entries
- Syllabus and entry forms may be obtained on-line or through Committee members.
- Entries must show competitor's title and composer of selections. NO change in selections will be allowed after the entry has been filed.
- Each entry must be accompanied by the fee for that particular class as stated in the syllabus.
- There will be no refund of entry fees in the event of a withdrawal.
- Entries received after the closing date will be subject to refusal. The Committee also reserves the right to refuse entries for any other reason.
- The Committee reserves the right to limit the number of entries in any given class.
Eligibility
- All competitions are open to any competitor without regard to residence, domicile, or age.
- Where specific repertoire is listed (Classes 101 - 105), competitors must enter only one class. Competitors may enter any and as many other classes as they wish.
- Entrants in Classes 106 - 109 must select repertoire that corresponds to a minimum level of difficulty equivalent to Class 104.
- Class winners must proceed to succeeding levels for future festivals.
- No individual will be allowed to participate in more than one entry in any one class.
- Personnel changes in ensembles will be allowed only in cases of illness and are subject to the approval of the Committee.
Repertoire
- Photostat copies of music will not be permitted unless you have written permission from the publisher.
- Test pieces must be performed in the prescribed key.
- For all open and ensemble classes the competitors must provide the adjudicator with a copy of the music they will perform. Competitors in ensemble classes should supply a full score (if published) to the adjudicator.
- Competitors must not select and perform the same test piece in more than one class.
- When appropriate, competitors should make an effort to edit the music they supply to the adjudicator with phrase markings, added slurs or articulations, etc.
- At the discretion of the Syrinx Committee, substitutions of repertoire other than what is listed in the various classes MAY be allowed. To be accepted in a class, substitute repertoire MUST be equivalent to the listed works in length and/or difficulty.
Syrinx Flute Festival General Rules
Programme Procedure
- The Committee will decide the order in which the competitors will perform.
- A preliminary test may be held in any class at the discretion of the Committee.
- A time will be set for the commencement of each competition and competitors must be prepared to perform when called.
- The order of appearance in the programme must be adhered to unless the competitor files a written, signed valid reason satisfactory to the Committee one week prior to commencement of the festival; otherwise, the competitor will be heard following the listed participants and receive an adjudication but will not qualify for standing in the class. Unavailability of an accompanist will not be considered a valid reason.
- The duration of a performance must conform to time limitations set forth in the syllabus.
- No performer will commence until the signal is given by the adjudicator or adjudicator's secretary.
- The adjudicator will have discretionary power to stop any performance at any time and/or to instruct the omission of repeats.
Adjudicator's Reports
Adjudicator's reports will be available to competitors free of charge following conclusion of each session.
Admission Of Competitors And Public
- Admission of competitors and the general public to the hall or halls in which the competitions are being held will be governed by circumstances and such regulations as may be found advisable; which shall be made by the Committee at the time of the festival, including price of admission.
- No one may interfere with performances or adjudications.

Class 107: Concerto or Concertino, Fee: $26.00
Repertoire is the competitor's own choice. Performance time is not to exceed 15 minutes. Competitors may elect not to play all movements of the composition based on the above time restriction. The repertoire chosen for this class is expected to be as difficult or more difficult than the level established in Class 104.
Class 108: Unaccompanied Flute Solo, Fee: $26.00
Repertoire is the competitor's own choice. Performance time is not to exceed 15 minutes. Competitors may elect not to play all movements of the composition based on the above time restriction. The repertoire chosen for this class is expected to be as difficult or more difficult than the level established in Class 104.
Class 109: Canadian Compositions, Fee: $26.00
Repertoire is the competitor's own choice. Performance time is not to exceed 15 minutes. Competitors may elect not to play all movements of the composition based on the above time restriction. The repertoire chosen for this class is expected to be as difficult or more difficult than the level established in Class 104.
